Emotional Support Counseling

Feeling down, tense, frustrated, or even lonely? Do you ever wish you had someone to talk to and just get things off your chest? Someone who actually listens without judgment or criticism, but with empathy and genuine concern instead? We’d like to think we can always reach out to friends but oftentimes they are simply too busy, dealing with issues of their own, or just don’t know how to comfort us or know the right things to say.

Ever called someone just to ‘vent’ and walked away feeling worse than better?

Or been told to stop complaining? To the average person, hearing that can be incredibly invalidating, hurtful, and potentially harmful. Perhaps you just don’t have anyone to talk to at all, which is the situation for many people – believe it or not - who may not have close family, many friends, or an encouraging support circle.

Venting, or talking about your feelings, what is stressing you out, has you worried or even completely overwhelmed is NOT complaining. In the field of Psychology it is called having a ‘Catharsis’ and also, ‘Emotional Processing’. Mental health professionals understand the importance of venting AND its benefits, and so one of their goals is to offer a person a safe space – free of negativity - to label their feelings, articulate their needs and frustrations, and even cry if necessary, which although perfectly OK and actually the healthy thing to do, it’s unfortunately discouraged by society.

Suppressing, avoiding, or pushing down our feelings can lead to many damaging tendencies and behaviors such as overeating, drinking to much, substance abuse, misdirecting anger and aggression, depression, anxiety, self-sabotaging, mental breakdowns, and the list goes on. It can even contribute to high blood pressure, heart problems, and insomnia to name just a few of its physiological symptoms. Emotional suppression lowers our quality of living in general, disrupts our inner peace, hinders our personal growth, and damages our relationships.

Reach out to an emotional support and mental health wellness practitioner instead to warmly and compassionately hold the space for you to openly express yourself and  decompress from life’s burdens; someone who is trained to effectively listen and can provide you with the understanding, reassurance, validation, and emotional comfort - as well as the encouragement, upliftment, and inspiration - you actually need. It’s an investment in yourself that will be sure to improve your mood, your well-being, and your overall quality of life.
